Our fellow shooter and ACMSA member Richard Semer was in a motorcycle accident while driving to a meeting Wednesday morning, February 4th, 2009  on the 51.  We need to keep Richard and his loved ones in our prayers for this long road ahead of them.

A Trust Fund has been  set up for the renovations of his home.  Many features in his house will need to be updated to wheelchair accessibility.  You can go into any Bank of America in the country and ask for a bank manager or asst, manager and tell them you would like to make a deposit into the :  Richard J. Semer Assistant Fund ....They don't want to post account # on the internet ....eventually you will be able to contribute with a pay pal account.

A result of the accident  has left Rich paralyzed from the waist down. With this new condition, some renovations are needed to his house to make it more wheelchair and ADA friendly and we need to purchase some various equipment so Rich can ultimately live independently. To that end Bruce Dressel and Jon Nelson have decided that one of the best ways to raise the necessary funds for Rich’s recovery and to renovate the house is to organize a golf tournament and luncheon and invite everyone we know to participate.

MESSAGE FROM RICHARD

March 09, 2009 9:01 PM

To all my friends, family and fellow mounted shooters, I wish I could answer each and every message personally, but unfortunately in my present state, that is plain impossible. I do however want you all to know how deeply you have touched my heart. In my wildest dreams I never would have imagined all the support that I am getting. It is nice to know that after all these years of being kind of a solitary man that I have so many people that have shown their love and affection. Trust me when I say, although I have already said it, you have no idea how much you have affected me.

In my darkest phase which is sure to come, I will remember all your messages of hope and strength and it will be my mantra to fight by. Thank you all so much,

Richard

Dad,  I heard you weren't feeling well and just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and will wait here for you until we can ride another sunset.

Richard, we are praying for you and your family. This will be a very difficult time for you but if you will hold fast to Jesus and ask for his strength you will make it. We don't want to presume we know what you are going through or give a generic response but both Wes and I believe with all our hearts that if you ask you will receive the much needed strength from our Lord Jesus.

Attached is a picture of Richard taken in Bonaire in 2004 when we were there. Itʼs difficult to believe that so much has changed in an instant and we can only have faith that Richard will be as determined to overcome his injuries, with the support of his family and many friends, as he has shown on previous occasions.

I was happy to learn from Cathy that this site had provided an opportunity to contact you. You have been in my prayers since I was advised of your accident and I have reflected on the kindness and friendship that you have given me since I moved out west 13 years ago. I am confident that you will overcome all the obstacles in your path and continue to be a model of success and friendship. Now that I have been advised that you can receive visits your friends, I will take the liberty of coming to Phoenix to see you. As I have told Cathy, anything that I can do, please let me know.

Hey Rich, Sorry to hear about your visit to the hospital. Avoid the green jello if at all possible! I'm not sure what they put in that stuff. Remember to look forward and focus on those things in life you have control over, and truly make a difference in life. You've made an impact on a lot of lives and have been there many times when a friend was needed. Even if that meant staying at KHA until midnight to get a project out. Take care and please let Julie and I know if there is anything we can do for you. You're in our thoughts.

Richard I just posted your latest update from Cathy on the web today and wanted to let you know again how much you are in our prayers.  I hope that you received the wanted poster card I sent in the mail.  (I had to send it twice!)    and I hope it is hanging on your hospital wall.  I want all the medical staff to know that you are a Mounted Shooter and how important you are to all of us.  Keep healing and improving.  We miss you and Samantha.

Rich, it’s just not the same around the house without you. Please hurry and recover so all of us can be together again. There hasn’t been one day that you haven’t been in my thoughts. You are surrounded by family and wonderful friends who love you and will support you in anyway needed. You’ve always been there for us in so many different ways so let us help you now. Please be that determined and strong man that I know and start healing mentally and physically and embrace what ever the future holds for you. Max, Sugar, and Zoe send lots of licks and love. They miss you very much. Max still has his red ball, ready for you to come home and play with him, Sugar is still waiting by the window for you.  Cathy….you know all you have to do is tell me whatever it is you need.  Love, Joanne        3-7-09
Richard, I think of you daily.  I haven't known what to say, nor do I now.  I have always thought of you as my big brother, and you are the strongest person I know.  I'm sure you will face the days ahead with all of that strength, and I will come and visit as soon as I possibly can.  I love you.  Jennifer       3-9-09
Hey, my Brother, we are all behind you and miss your smiling face.  Your business "buds" are with you, and will help you as you get back to adjusting to daily life.  We look forward to your exit from the hospital and are here to help.  You are in our prayers, at my house, and the kids ask about your progress frequently.

Richie, I cried when Cathy called me and told me what had happened.  Daniel and I pray for you every morning and evening.  (Besides all the thoughts and prayers during the day).  You are one of the strongest and most stubborn people I know, (you wouldn’t even let me ever win at Scrabble).  I know that God is looking over you and listening to all of your friends and family’s heartfelt prayers and requests.  He will give you the strength and attitude(?) to deal with this situation also.  I sent several cards, but only two have not returned.  Know that you are well loved.  (Beautiful web sight-I just got the link)

Hey Richard,   I am now back from Florida. I had some issues with my Dad regarding considerations for moving him into a nursing home. I plan to visit you next week if that is convenient. I will coordinate with Cathy. I hope you know that I am here to support you in your rehab especially when you go home. You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Your friend,

Hi Richard,  It was so wonderful to visit you the other day!  You look great and your strength and positive attitude is even more amazing than I could have imagined!  I 'm sure that each and every day faces more challenges - please continue to be strong.  We believe in you!  You have so many good friends and family surrounding you with their love and support.  Please never hesitate to reach out in times of need.  Remember the story I've told you about my father and what he has overcome............anything is possible!  May the Lord put his healing hands upon you, give you hope, courage, peace and fill you with his grace. We'll see you soon, Susan & Shayne Gillin      4/1/09

Dear Richard, It was wonderful to see you.  Your courage, spirit and drive will get you through this challenge.  Gunsmoke is waiting for you to aid in your recovery.  You and your family are in our prayers every day.  Looking at your web site on ACMSA, I see a man of determination who will not give up.  A door has opened with a twist and turn that was not in your plan.  God has a plan for you and he knows you will carry it out with faith, strength, prayer and determination.  You are an inspiration.  Your ACMSA family is here to support you!Peggy and Tom Ahern    5/4/09

Hello Richard,  What a delight it was today to find out that you had been released and now home with Cathy and Sam.  I am so sorry that I couldn’t say “Good-bye” personally, but I was out of town and then ill most of last week.  Alas, the reason I missed the benefit.  How wonderful that you made it!!!!

If it’s OK with you, I would love to stop by and visit sometime soon.  I have a DVD I had made for you of the Jason Schechterle speech.  When I came to pick you up, your blood pressure had been very low that day and you were sleeping   They tried to awaken you, but were unable to.  I stopped by afterwards, but, again, you were asleep.  Then I left town………….     However, I did have a terrific conversation with Jason who is one extraordinary man – not unlike you!  I did tell him briefly about you and he said he would enjoy meeting you in person and would even come to your home.  He gave me his contact information and I would happy to assist in making the connection.  He is very insightful and incredibly funny.  I can only imagine the wonderful conversation the two of you would have.

I read the emails on this site and I am deeply touched. May the love of family and friends embrace you as you enter this new journey.  My best to you as you go forward.  I know that many will be touched by your amazing strength, kindness and love.  Kind regards, Kathleen Norton     5/4/09
